Safe & Sound Protocol

Safety via the auditory pathways

VSA10_edited.jpg

What is SSP?

The safe and sound protocol is a 5-15 day sound intervention (electronically altered music through over the ear headphones) used to tone the structures of the middle ear, stimulating the vagus nerve and cranial nerve 7.

This stimulation serves to soothe our nervous system and strengthen the neuronal connections resulting in a shift from fight or flight, constantly scanning the environment for threat to responding to cues of safety, or what is called ‘social engagement mode’. In the same way we build strength and endurance in exercise, we can build and strengthen neurological pathways that promote safety and calm.
